Question: What fire training do my employees need in the UK?

Answer: It is a legal requirement for employers to ensure that their staff / employees receive adequate training on what to do in the event of a fire.

All employees must receive this training upon induction and be refreshed at least annually. This must be recorded.

We provide Fire Safety awareness training for all employees, it is a 3 hour course provided at your premises (3 .5 hours if a level 1 Fire Safety certificate is chosen). This includes hand-on fire extinguisher training.

Question: What is the difference between a Fire Marshal and a Fire Warden in the UK?

Answer: There is no difference, the term "Warden" suggests someone who undertakes monitoring or policing activities, whereas the term "Marshal" conjures up an image of someone who is directing people. The Fire Marshal / Fire Warden role is a combination of these two roles: monitoring and ensuring fire safety in the workplace and assisting in evacuation of the premises on the actuation of a fire alarm or in the event of a fire.

Question: How many Fire Marshals / Fire Wardens does my business need?

Answer:  That depends on several factors: the number of employees in your premises, the level of risk from fire, the number of floors in your premises and the physical size of your building.

You should have at least ONE trained Fire Marshal / Fire Warden for every 50 members of staff for low risk premises. This needs to be increased if your premises are deemed to be a higher risk. Additional trained Fire Marshals / Fire Wardens should be available to cover for absence, leave etc.

Larger buildings require more Fire Marshals / Fire Wardens to assist in building evacuation. Additionally, for premises where there are children or vulnerable people present or where there is access to members of the public, increased numbers of Fire Marshals / Fire Wardens will be required.
